    1. Entertaining stories of what life was like as Freddie Mercury s main roadie from someone who was actually there No scandalous tabloid shite here, just fond and some not so fond remembrances Recommended.

    2. Like many other reviews on the internet state, this isn t the book for you if you re looking for sensationalised scandal and tabloid tales At the same time, this also isn t the book for you if you re looking for details of Freddie Mercury s later years and his ailing health.Queen s roadie, Peter Hince, in this book, describes the intense work and mentality behind Queen s incredible stage show, fronted by the ever flamboyant Freddie, brainy Brian, raucous Roger, and the demure Mr Deacon Not only [...]

    3. Brilliant Fabulous Humane. This was a wonderfully written, warm and deeply interesting look at the author s time with Queen I can see where people expecting to learn salacious, sarky tidbits and scandals would be disappointed with this book Completely unlike what they expected, Peter Hince gives us here a genuinely respectful view of tour life as one of the band, with the band Yes, there are a couple of interesting bits included, but so from the perspective of someone like me, who also used to t [...]

    4. I found this a fairly enjoyable read, but lacking Peter Hince s writing style is a bit jumbled, he begins stories and often seems to leave them slightly unresolved as he begins a new tale The stories all come thick and fast, often only a few paragraphs in length. This means there is quite a lot of entertainment to be found in the book, but unfortunately it never quite told me the things I was hoping for Many of the stories do not involve the band, and those that do are quick and fleeting, not rea [...]

    5. A really enjoyable read, Hince is humorous and there s a decent flow to the book I wouldn t call this a story about the band per se, but about their roadie which the addendum my life with the greatest rock band substantiates , and that s just fine It was good to read about the Queen machine from that perspective this is your all access Queen backstage pass More than once, however, I got the sense that Hince is resentful, and, at the same time, it was sad to read that, apparently, the crew did no [...]

    6. Rather free with the judgmental stereotypingWell This perhaps won t have bothered many of you, but I must run with a polite crowd, because it isn t often that I hear this amount of bald faced judgmental stereotyping, let alone unabashed objectification of women Wow I found the writing downright crass. Not to mention repetitive, non linear, and chock full of British idioms that I couldn t interpret This book could have been greatly improved with a good editor. Now, to be fair to Mr Hence, I do agr [...]

    7. Interesting read about one of my favorite bands The flow of the prose is quite frankly awful, but there s enough tidbits about life on the road with Queen to keep you interested. The best parts are the descriptions of the interactions of the band and the crew while on stage at legendary concerts Wembley and Live Aid are recalled by Ratty Hince , and the photos that Hince took of the band.Although the juvenile antics and debauchery are somewhat appreciated by my inner 20 yr old, I really was left [...]

    8. Stories and perspectives from a rock and roll roadie during the 70 s and 80 s for the band Queen.i picked this up to gain a wider understandng of the band from an insider.

    9. Disappointed Don t waste your money. The worse Freddie Mercury book I have ever read Basically this Book is all about the Author, Peter Hince How he loved The USA.Don t waste your money and your Time.

    10. Je li kiedykolwiek zastanawiali cie si jaki tak naprawd by ten Freddie Mercury, jak to jest by blisko wielkiego rockowego zespo u lub ile prawdy jest w plotkach na temat rock n rollowego ycia to Peter Hince daje Wam szans pozna te i wiele innych informacji z pierwszej r ki Jako cz onek ekipy technicznej zespo u, sp dzi u boku Queen wiele lat, by wiadkiem rozwoju wiatowej kariery, ale towarzyszy Freddiemu, Brianowi, Rogerowi i Johnowi r wnie w gorszych chwilach Tych jednak by o nie wiele, bo niez [...]

    11. I enjoyed this book it held my attention and actually had me laughing out loud in places I generally prefer memoirs that are chronological in nature oddly enough, the non linear style of the book didn t bother me as much as I expected and I got used to the narrative bouncing from one story into another While there are some anecdotes about band members, this book isn t about Queen it s a collection of personal stories related to Hince s experiences as a roadie in the 70s and 80s The fact that he [...]

    12. This book tells the story of Peter Hince, who started to work with the rock band Queen from the 1970s 1986 The book is a different rock autobiography because it tells the day in and out of the road crew for a band Yes, there are a few wild stories in the book, but most of it is told on his duties and his friendship he encountered with the band There are several great stories that was knowledgeable to me like lead singer Freddy Mercury loved playing the game Scrabble and almost every day working [...]

    13. Ratty the Roadie s tales of sex and drugs and rock roll while on the road with Queen He says right up front that he is not out to embarrass or disgrace anyone, which makes him a nice bloke but isn t disgraceful embarrassment the whole point of my life with celebrities books What most stood out for me was Hince s vague tone of regret for his part in the homophobic taunts and pranks of the tours of the 1970s and 1980s Ahh, but it was a different time etc He does at one point call Brian May an emot [...]

    14. If you re looking for a book specifically about Queen, the band, or the members, this is not the one However, it is a very interesting insight into the life of a roadie with one of the greatest rock bands in history.Peter Hince reveals what life is really like being a roadie, the spills and thrills, the ups and downs and everything else that accompanies touring the world There is no set chronological structure to the book, but it is this that makes it interesting.I thoroughly enjoyed it Peter s [...]

    15. Finally, an interesting book about my favorite rock band, Queen Although there are many books out there that detail Queen s recordings and live concerts, this book does so from a completely different perspectiveat of a long time roadie with the band, Peter Hince, known affectionately as Ratty His time with Queen spans their years as the most important live band at the timeif not of ALL time With behind the scenes stories of his personal experiences with the members of Queen, Freddie Mercury espe [...]

    16. I really enjoyed this book Peter Hince aka Ratty for Queen fans was the personal roadie for Freddie Mercury and John Deacon for nearly their entire touring career This is not a book that spills the beans about Freddie s personal life These are Hince s memoirs as a roadie, as well as his chance to explain to rock fans what life is like on the road, day in and day out, town to town, continent to continent, for many years In all, he toured with Queen for about 12 years, and on every continent He ha [...]

    17. This book is, as the title suggests, largely about Peter Hince s experiences with the band both on the road and in the studio If you re looking for a comprehensive biography detailing the lives of Queen members both with and outside of the band, this isn t it, but it does provide some interesting insight as to some of the behind the scenes stuff The stories are mostly anecdotal and not organized in chronological fashion and this isn t a literary masterpiece, but Queen fans will likely find some [...]

    18. Peter Hince, known to Queen fans as Ratty , was Freddie Mercury s and John Deacon s personal roadie for a number of years The stories that he tells are vivid and are written in a voice that only an Anglophile could love If you re looking for dirt on the band, you won t find it here Ratty is honest about his dealings with group, especially Mercury, who the roadie presents warts and all.The best thing about this text is that I was able to find it simply because it was in e book format This isn t s [...]

    19. Quite a nice read for a Queen fan Although the writing is a bit sloppy and organization of the chapters is not ideal, I found the book quite enjoyable. However, just a word of caution there s not a lot of Queen going on in the book except the first chapter perhaps , but a lot of roadie adventures including, but not limited to narrow escapes, long waits in the airports and stage preparations.

    20. Exactly what the title says I found it by chance at a discount on , thought why not , and read it in August Peter Hince was a roadie for Queen for years, and it s his autobiography Kind of nice to see what s behind the scenes of such an endeavour the book is a bit messy, but quite funny at times.

    21. Not enough of Queen and too much of the roadie Peter Hince If he spent so much time with the band I am disappointed with the little he retained Maybe he did not interact much with them anyway There are some parts better than others but overall this is about the life of a rock n roll rodie, regardless the band he worked for.

    22. Entertaining and informative look at the life of a roadie, and what all it takes to keep a world traveling band moving Very respectful when speaking of the band no real dirt to be found in this book, except now I know what the line Take me back to the Shack in the song Dragon Attack references.

    23. Featuring Freddie Mercury on the cover, I expected this book to be jam packed with stories about Freddie and Queen Instead, all I got was a few snippets scattered throughout the book Interesting as they were, they didn t make up for all the boring bits in between Am left quite disappointed.

    24. I got a signature of Peter Hince in the book with personal for myself, so that makes this book a treasure anyway But it is fun to read as well Off course, the topic helps greatest showman and singer ever But apart from that it s written in a direct and funny way.

    25. Memories of a roadie who worked for Queen in the 70s and early 80s Didn t find the book to be particularly great Not much learned about the band themselves, about the anecdotes of stuff that happened on tour.

    26. This was an enjoyable colleection of stories about working with Queen for many years Felt very real and not at all obnoxious or pretentious or embellshed Simply written as a friend looking back and remembering.

    27. I really wanted to like this book because I love Queen The biggest problem is that it is much about being a roadie and less about the band If you want to learn a lot about the members of the band this is not the book for you.

    28. Great As a Queen fan, it was great to get an insider s vantage of this great band As a one time terrible roadie it was great to see how it should have been done.

    29. Jako nie przekona a mnie ta ksi ka Nawet nie by am w stanie jej sko czy Wi cej o tym, co robi autor ni o samym zespole.
