    1. This book doesn t have the most complex story, but the author makes it compelling by the way the chapters are structured I felt compelled to keep turning the pages to see what Marcus and his band would do next.

    2. The Rock of Ivanore by Laurisa White Reyes is a fantasy novel for middle school through adult readers It is the first book of the Celestine Chronicles Marcus is an orphan in a small town He is raised and considered an apprentice by the elderly enchanter Zyll When the annual Great Quest is announced in Quendel, to find the Rock of Ivanore The outcome of the quest will decide the future of Marcus and a handful of other fifteen year old boys from the village The boys set of on the quest with no ide [...]

    3. I liked this book It is a solid 3.5 stars. This book started out good and got better The setting in this book was pretty unique, well as unique as it can be with the fantasy genre The book is set on an island that is at, what would be considered, a cold war with the mainland On this island there are intersting inhabitants like Agorans cat like humans , Grocs big hairy monsters that can transform into humans , and cyclopses The basis of the book is, these young men must go on a quest to find their [...]

    4. I love fantasy books for young readers They make for such light, easy and entertaining reads The Rock of Ivanore by author Laurisa White Reyes was no exception This was a really fun and feel good book to read I read it in one night because I just wanted to find out how everything will turn out The writing is simple and easy to follow It had adventure and magic It talked about friendship, love, honor, and loyalty, but it also had some dark moments There have been reviews that the story, events an [...]

    5. A fantastic fantasy book for either middle grade or teen readers Plenty of excitement, action, mystery and magical creatures The characters are a delight to discover with surprises all the way through A treasure to add to my personal favorites.

    6. This was an excellent and quick book The story itself wasn t very original a fairly typical coming of age fantasy novel, but it really didn t matter because it was so enjoyable There is plenty of action and adventure to keep things moving along and to keep it exciting, but there is also a balance of slower thoughtful moments There were a lot of similarities between this book and other fantasy series such as Lord of the Rings and Shannara, but it was presented in a different enough way to make i [...]

    7. 8. I especially enjoyed the character and plot development of this book It is the perfect epic story for MG readers awesome storyline and set up for following books, but not so long as to be intimidating to middle readers If we could take the tone of Lord of the Rings and make it 10 year old friendly, we d have The Rock of Ivanore. The characters are what totally make this story shine especially Xerxes, the talking, walking stick Love him Every one of the boys is individual and likable, with unique [...]

    9. An amazing read for middle graders full of magic and mystery I love quest books, and The Rock of Ivanore fits the bill The main character, Marcus, is wonderful He starts out full of doubt and grows into an interesting young man My favorite character though is the talking staff What fun Kids 8 and up will love this book.

    10. This was an easy, feel good, fun read Definantly want to read the next in the seris A group of boys leave home on a quest On the way they find some unlikely friends and allies They find what they are truely made of, while helping in the defence of Dokur, a city, where their quest leads them They return home as men, friends and family.

    11. I really enjoyed this book It was a lot of fun and I really enjoyed the journey The characters where every natural and developed, the writing style was fun and exciting I was really impressed by this book

    12. Six fourteen year olds set out on the annual quest of Quendal To find the Rock of Ivanore without a clue as to where or what it is Marcus Frye is the apprentice of the Enchanter Zyll and he must discover his magic as well fulfill the quest A true epic fantasy enjoy the read.

    13. This book takes you to a different realm absolutely surreal or is amazing.oryline keeps you wanting to read a definite must read

    14. Marcus is excited to participate in his village s annual Great Quest, the time where boys of age go off on some adventure or other assigned by an elder in the village , and those who return are considered men It s also used for job placements, so returning with honor is a high priority But Marcus s quest immediately presents some pressing problems He s been told to find the Rock of Ivanore, but no one is quite sure what it is In addition, some nefarious plot is afoot on the island, and the boys [...]

    15. The Rock of Ivanore by Laurisa White Reyes is the first book in the Celestine Chronicles I began reading this fantasy book thinking it was for middle grade students, but soon realized that anyone including adults would enjoy this story Marcus is an orphan in Quendel, a small town on an island He is raised by the elderly enchanter Zyll as his apprentice When the boys in Qendel are in their 15th year, they must go on a quest This year s quest is announced and Marcus is going to accompany the boys [...]

    16. Aww, man, I kind of regret my sarcastic remarks having read the author s afterword She seems like a really nice lady But honestly, I think maybe this should have stayed a serial bedtime story If it was any like Lord of the Rings, it would have had to be contested by the Tolkien estate Mentorial wizard Check Gangrel creature despised by the main character s companion sometimes unjustly Check Unexpected heirs arriving to claim the kingship eventually with a near anagram of the name Aragorn Check [...]

    17. The Rock of Ivanore by Laurisa White Reyes was a cute coming of age fantasy It had a charming cast of characters and a rather simplistic plot. The beginning was a bit confusing to me there were two points of view, but the way the other was integrated was a bit confusing I didn t feel like the voices were different enough, and it was very jarring because I was confused as to who this other random person was The story did come together, and then the story made a lot sense. The plot is a ton of fun [...]

    18. Marcus, an orphan under the care of the master Zyll, participates in the quest that all boys of a certain age in the medieval kingdom of Quendel go on so that they can be considered men This year, they are to find the Rock of Ivanore Marcus takes Zyll s staff and a key that will help boost his magical powers, which are weak Joining up with Clovis, Marcus heads to Noam to consult the library about the location of the Rock, but the two are attacked by first a talking snake and then Bryn, a Groc wh [...]

    19. This book was a breath of fresh air to the fantasy fan in me Not because it gave me something totally unexpected but because it gave me exactly what I needed It was epic fantasy in its pure and simple form The world is appealing with treacherous and dangerous forests, beasts, magic and a variety of races like Cyclops for example. There was a lot of characters that came into play but I enjoyed how Marcus, Kelvin and Jayson came together Xerxes the staff could manage to be funny and annoying at the [...]

    20. Good bones of a story But it just wasn t something that has stuck with me enough to think about after I finished it I did like it Good characters, lots of plot But lots of we did this and then this type of action Good recomendation for all those who love high fantasy and just need things to read.

    21. This is a fantasy adventure for younger readers particularly aimed at boys, I would guess, given the scarcity of female characters The story centres on a group of young boys sent out on a quest to prove their maturity I found it a bit difficult to get into at the beginning, but the pace picks up after a while, and I did end up rooting for the boys by the end.

    22. 2013 IRA nominee for intermediate fiction An engaging fantasy about young boys on a quest with well constructed story not overwhelmed by fantasy elements It s based on stories told orally by a mother to her family and reads well I thought it might be too complex for intermediate but actually it works well for this age group.

    23. I wished that there was depth and complexity in The Rock of Ivanore The characters, especially Marcus, started to drive me crazy with the lack of communication and their poor choices.
