    1. Set in a post apocalyptic future where rising sea water cause unspecified, but not important to the plot has wrecked modern society Major advancements in transplant technology enable the rich to extend their lives by hundreds of years The Hughes Corporation has taken transplant technology to the extreme by growing clones for its customers These vessels are maintained in tanks of amniotic like fluid, ready to be imbued with the old host s brain functions. The premise was well articulated with a cl [...]

    2. I think that Rita Kempley and The Vessel are the real deal Miss Kempley was a shining star at the Washington Post for many years, serving as one of the chief film critics and movie writers I always enjoyed her quick, amiable wit, her uncanny insights and the fresh way she perceived both films and the people who made them She was always an excellent racounteur and I always knew Miss Kempley had a novel or two in her The Vessel is her first novel and shows that Miss Kempley has the goods to be a f [...]

    3. I am so hoping that Ms Kempley is NOT predicting the real future in her debut novel, The Vessel Set in a dystopian future in a world ruined by weather run amuck, the privileged are living extended lives The Hughes Center grows their clones and transfers a client s memories to them when said client gets a little too old, weathered, or diseased What makes this sci fi dystopian such a fun read is that the author interjects dark humor and even some romance into a genre that tends to take itself a li [...]

    4. I was fortunate enough to win a copy of this book from , and it didn t disappoint Overall, this is a very fun read It s fast paced and heavy on the action, with an undercurrent of dark humor throughout The story centers around Margaret, a talented neurosurgeon who works in a life extension center grow a replacement you and live forever , and Chase, a grinder a medical courier of sorts The action really picks up when Morgan Hughes, Margaret s father, catches a disease sadly incurable due to his w [...]

    5. I have received a free copy of this book through a GoodReads FirstReads giveaway I m going to make a new catagory for this book I ll call it Sci Fi Lite I enjoy sci fi, but some authors tend to get wrapped up in the technical parts and leave no room for any story Not the case in The Vessel The characters are well written and the storyline flows Definitely an author I d like to read of.

    6. Vessel is an interesting what if look into the future We see a world that is largely run by corporations and has a very sharp divide between the haves and the have nots Though some would stay the story is slow moving, I would say that it gives us much needed detail to really appreciate the world and the social structure The plot is engaging and the characters have a definite depth to them In what originally appears to be a very black and white, good and bad world we start to see a lot of shades [...]

    7. RATING 3.0 out of 5.0SUMMARY In a bleak future, people with money can effectively live forever by growing replica s of their bodies, called vessels, and then transferring their consciousness into the new body The vessels of the owner of the company the perfected the technique is missing as he is attacked by a fatal disease His daughter works to find a way to save his life why trying a manage a fling with a lower class courier who, it turns out, may hold the key to her fathers survival COMMENTS I [...]

    8. The Vessel wasn t quite what I expected although I m not sure what that really was but that didn t mean I didn t enjoy it It was fast paced, with some unexpected twists to the plot While the idea of body swapping isn t new, combined with the post apocalyptic scenario and the plot, it is an entirely new story I really enjoyed reading it, right up to the end, which was entirely unexpected. It isn t a pretentious book with lofty goals, but of a gritty and entertaining story Great book to curl up wi [...]

    9. Not entirely original, and uses comedic moments in awkward situations that hurt the pacing, but otherwise very well written Kempley is clearly talented and it would be interesting to read fiction of hers in the future, but The Vessel doesn t really bring anything new to the whole body swapping trope in science fiction Read a full review at Android Dreamer.

    10. I thought I knew what to expect, but this book was refreshingly unexpected from start to finish It was thought provoking but not too much , funny, and generally hard to put down.
