    1. RATING 4.25Most defense attorneys will tell you that many of the people that they represent are not innocent In spite of that fact, they are sworn to provide them with the best possible legal defense Miami defense attorney Jack Swyteck finds himself in a real dilemma when he is assigned a homeless man known as Falcon He is certain that he won t receive his fees much to his surprise, Falcon has no problem at all coming up with the required 10,000 In fact, he sends Jack to Bermuda to retrieve it, [...]

    2. This was the first Grippando book that I have read, so Swyteck was a new character for me This was a free read in three parts from the kindle store, but I waited for all three parts to be available before I started reading I did not want to risk being left hanging From the book description, I though that this book would have a legal or sleuthing edge to it, but it was of a thriller suspense read However, there were not enough nuggets given to uncover the mystery during the first two thirds of [...]

    3. The concepts I found most interesting in the book, was how Grippando based the circumstances of the plot and it s characters in part on the story of the Disappeared s from Argentina s Civil War as well as the idea to have a blind negotiator who s blindness was influenced by his own father s blindness due to macular degeneration The race to discover the truth behind homeless man Falcon s past and his reasons for holing up in a hotel with four hostages while 200,000 is being kept in a Bahamian Ban [...]

    4. On the suggestion of a fellow reader we both enjoy Harlan Coben I entered the world of James Grippando it was a fast and twisting read and I did enjoy it but not as much as Myran Bolitar Will, however give him another shot in the future.

    5. needs to improve its rating system, because I want to give this book a 3.5 out of 5 stars, but I couldn t do so The book is not that perfect to be given a round up of 4 stars, yet not that bad to be given just 3.I like how the majority of the plot was actually revolved around a hold up situation, which means, it didn t dragged on from day to days It also didn t felt like a rush, although I hate to say that the way it ended was anti climatic and waste of adrenaline, actually Here we had Theo, his [...]

    6. It started off a it slow, but was quite riveting by the end Even though it s number 6 in the series, it s readable as a stand alone I did feel that as the main character, Jack was side lined and became just one of the many.

    7. One of Jack s current clients, The Falcon, take his former client Theo hostage in a motel room and Jack and a blind hostage negotiator must try to save his life along with the other hostages while getting to the bottom of this disturbed man s inane ramblings.

    8. I enjoyed the story and thought it was a real page turner Jack Swyteck is one of my favorite characters.

    9. When a homeless man is threatening to jump off a bridge unless he can talk to the only daughter of Miami s Mayor, Vince Paulo, a blind hostage negotiator, is brought in to talk him down Once Falcon, the homeless man, is down, Jack Swyteck is called in to defend Falcon with his legal proceedings stemming from the bridge incident But the bridge incident turns out to be the least of Falcon s legal issues The Mayor is dead set against his daughter going anywhere near Falcon, even though she is a tra [...]

    10. Jack Swyteck, 6 In the latest novel from the bestselling author whom critics have called the thriller writer to watch, lawyer Jack Swyteck tackles a case in which the life of his best friend hangs in the balance and in which nothing is as it seems.Miami criminal defense attorney Jack Swyteck isn t looking for a new client, at least not one who is homeless and in jail for threatening to jump off a bridge But from the moment Jack is called to defend the man, who goes by the name Falcon, something [...]

    11. Since I had just finished and liked my first Grippando book, a stand alone thriller, I snapped this up when I found a free Kindle version It s the sixth installment in Grippando s series featuring criminal defense attorney, Jack Swyteck It didn t hurt that I hadn t read the previous five Swyteck books Although Grippando gives a crash course in Jack and his friend, Theo Knight, their backgrounds don t affect the action much in this book It begins with a newly blind hostage negotiator from the Miam [...]

    12. In When Darkness Falls, attorney Jack Swyteck takes on Falcon, a homeless man, as a client after Falcon holds up traffic for hours and demands to talk to the mayor s daughter Falcon s desire to talk to the mayor s daughter never materializes as he is captured After making bail, he flees after finding a dead woman in the back of the trunk he usually shacks up at This starts a story that has one twist after another ultimately leading up to the civil war in Argentina many years earlier. When Darknes [...]

    13. Interesting premise for the book The homeless crazy guy actually set a lot of things in motion About half way thru the book I started to figure out some things like the mayor was a bad guy and setting up the blind cop Don t know much about the dirty war in Argentina so I m now going to read up on that Would be very difficult being a hostage in a situation with a crazy person, there is really no reasoning with them Liked the fact that the weatherman had gotten himself involved in the hostage sit [...]

    14. This isn t your typical James Grippando book This is of a suspense thriller than his normal mystery books I liked it because I love his main character of Jack Swytek, but found it harder to stay interested in than his other books In this one, you know who is doing all the bad things, but you don t know why That s the primary plot of the book Why is all this happening and how does all of it fit together Mr Grippando takes and introducing you to the political mayor and his daugther He throws in t [...]

    15. Vince Paulo is a good cop After an injury in the line of duty has left him blind, he is reassigned as an instructor at the police academy However, he is called in to work as a negotiator when a homeless man climbs a lightpole on a bridge and threatens to jump Vince has history with the jumper He has talked him out of jumping several times before With further investigation, it is discovered that there is to the homeless man s statements than just the ravings of a lunatic, there is actually a dar [...]

    16. The previous reviews say it all, I downloaded part one of When Darkness Falls as a free e book I could not put it down until I had finished reading it and then I was sooooooo disappointed that I had to wait a few days until part two was released The gripping story continued, again I didn t put it down until I had finished it, to again have to wait for the final fix.I have just finished reading part three and can honestly say, the book made excellent reading and it is nice to know that James Grip [...]

    17. I received this book as a free download and as such I was pleasantly surprised that it was as good as it was As a pure work of fiction it was interesting, a bit suspenseful and a decent read I enjoyed some of the characters and as such I would read this author again to see if there is character development in later novels, as well as to see the turn of events Disappointing, however, was the lack of information or further development of a main component of the plot Argentina s Disappeared Richar [...]

    18. I am not normally fond of the Lawyer and Cop books However this one was fantastic Not only did it keep me reading even when i should be doing other things but it also had just enough new stuff I know nothing about to be informative without making me feel like i was being educated I read this in the kindle 3 part format and even enjoyed the little post scripts from the author It was interesting to me to see how he choose parts of his own life to slide into the story without making it sound like h [...]

    19. Like many others I got this as a free 3 part download from and read it on my kindle app for the android over 4 nights The first book I have read from James Grippando and it probably won t be my past I liked the links into the history of the disappeared in Argentina something I wasn t aware had been going on although initially I thought I was familiar with this but then realised I knew about this sort of thing happening in Brazil Although I had an idea of the ending, there were a few surprises a [...]

    20. I downloaded this as the 3 e book format but read it straight through I have not read any of Mr Grippando s books before so I did not know there were earlier stories about the main character, Jack Swyteck Indeed one of the small gripes I had was that I did not realise who was the main character straight away It seems harsh to complain as it also means that each character is strong and well drawn but only up to a point I was left wanting to know about all of them Sergeant Paulo, especially, is a [...]

    21. This story bring new concepts, in the blind investigator who is not helpless, and the homeless man who is not in fact a scavenger by need The investigator is one who previously was a street detective, partially sidelined in an incident, not clearly explained, that resulted in his inability to see thus darkness falls The homeless man has been accused of a crime, and hires Swyteck to find the link that ties many seemingly random events together Altogether, well written, although a little drawn out [...]

    22. While this wasn t my favorite of the Jack Swyteck series, this was still a good story Despite the fact that the hostage situation with with Falcon probably dragged on a bit too long for me, I found the backstory interesting and really liked Vince and Alicia s stories I especially liked the fact that Grippando didn t burden the reader with any tales of Jack s annoying romantic interests I am reading the series out of order and definitely prefer the realism of the character of Andie Henning to tha [...]

    23. I ve read the previous books in this series and was looking forward to continuing the Jack Swytek saga The plot starts out simple as Jack prepares to defend a homeless man arrested for attempting to jump off a bridge and it just takes off from there Jack Theo get mixed up in some trouble once again We also meet some new characters in a blind police officer named Vince, as well as his love interest Alicia Not sure if we ll see either one again, but they definitely added to the plot If you ve like [...]

    24. Miami lawyer Jack Swyteck defends a homeless man named Falcon who takes hostages at a hotel after being released from jail Falcon has among his hostages, Theo Knight, a man who Swyteck once pulled off death row and who became his best friend He also wants to talk to Alicia Mendoza, a police officer who s dating the blind hostage negotiatior and happens to be the mayor s daughter What Jack doesn t know is that Falcon has a deeper agenda and is panicked enough to do anything to clear his name I di [...]

    25. A very good entry in the Jack Swyteck series, if not actually the best.Brilliant story with some great twists along the way, and some good, interesting characters, which were nicely filled out with backstories that weren t just there for the main plot.Jack and Theo are at the centre of the plot this time, especially Theo, which makes a change from him just being the side kick which means he gets to be a bit filled out The only problem with this is that he makes a better lead than Jack.

    26. James Grippando, after Michael Connelly and CJ Box, is my favorite author He is one of only a handful of novelists who, not only have I NEVER been disappointed in, but has consistently amazed me and impressed me.One thing I love about Mr Grippando novels are the fact that his stories always seem to go one way and then, suddenly BOOM They make a sharp turn and take you off in another direction When Darkness Falls is a thrill a minute Exciting, enjoyable and I hate to resort to a clich , but a rea [...]

    27. Jack Switek and Vince Paoli make a great pair I might have ruined this series for myself as this is my first JAmes Grippando book This one was so good that I m going to go back and read the first 5 While some of the twists were predictable, the author does a good job of linking them together so that it was believable I was disappointed that the hostage situation in the end didn t accidentally end up with an entire other crime ring I wanted Falcon to accidentally stumble upon another murder It wo [...]
