    1. Ask your neighbors not to hang out their wash on the first warm day but to dry it indoors Bees are my favorite animals I had read Maurice Maeterlinck s The Life of the Bee when I was a boy, almost 60 years ago, and since then I have been fascinated by bees behavior and their rich social life I had read Maeterlinck s The Life of the Ant as well, but ants do not interest me in the slightest to me, bees are wonderful while ants are just insects I have read and reviewed here on Biology of the Honey [...]

    2. This book was originally written in 1986 Considering that 26 years have passed, the book is surprisingly current and full of information for the new beekeeper The 70 pages are quick to read and presented in a well organized manner intro to the bee, conditions for keeping bees, hives and equipment, etc The book is further broken down into the year for the bee and the beekeeper There s a gorgeous two page graph that is worth the book alone it graphs the activities of the beekeeper against the posi [...]

    3. Very well written, and offers clear descriptions of the steps in creating hives and harvesting honey I read this book as well as a few others, and Melzer s is definitely in my top 3 beekeeping instructional books.

    4. I wouldn t buy this book But it s not horrible either I had purchased Beekeeping many years ago when I had seen it on a shelf The book is geared to a high management style, recommending to clip the queens wings etc The one advantage is how short the book is You can read it in a day.

    5. Pretty good information for an overwhelmed beginner There was a good graphic chart of the beekeepers year that put it in a nutshell.
